I was talking to someone the other day, and they said that I thought I was living on borrowed time, but that I had my whole life to live and it could be great, but the only problem was I didn't believe that.
The truth: We are living on borrowed time. All of us, and it has nothing to do with age, or disability, or economic status. We are all on borrowed time.
I can't predict what will happen to me this afternoon...so predicting what will happen tomorrow, next week, next year, next decade.... is impossible. We can only make guesses based on trends. Fortunately we have had a rather long trend of day following night. I for one, hope to see that trend continue.
The question is not, whether we are on borrowed time, but what we are going to do with the time we have borrowed.
Truth is, we don't know if we can change anything. We don't know if what we do or don't do will have an impact greater than ourselves....and we don't know it won't.
We don't know if we can change the world, because we don't always have control over all the variables, but maybe the question is not whether we can change the world, but whether the world is going to change us.
We are all living on borrowed time.
So I guess the question is: If we know that something is not working and needs to be changed... Do we address our weaknesses, and acknowledge our mistakes with an honest effort to correct them?
Do we blindly listen to those individuals who were a part of creating the problem and whom have vested interests in not seeing the system that has worked for them change?
Do we assume that simply because something has not been done that it cannot be done?
Is it better to accept defeat, simply because it is known at the beginning that the odds are not in your favor?
We are living on borrowed time. The question is: What are we going to do with the time we have borrowed?
