Today Barack Obama was sworn in as the 44th president of the United States. As I listened to his inaugural address I knew that not only was President Obama calling for change, and the people there to support and demand that there be a change, but that we have already begun to change... and I think for the better.
People who normally would not be involved in the political process where hanging on his every word. All kinds of people of all different shapes sizes and colors have come together in hopes that things will change for the better. I don't know when we will see ecomic relief, but I do know that we have already seen change.
A change that begins not with President Obama, but with the ordinary United States citizen who decided to ignore apathy and disillusionment and instead became involved hopeful for change...
But today is only day one. We have a good start and a hopeful beginning, but there is a lot of work still left to be done, and the power really does come from the people. I hope we as a nation are able to remember that when this day is over, and are able to resist being lulled back into apathy and disillusionment.
I for one am glad to see people of all shapes and sizes being empowered.
